Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Civil engineer, of Dublin. Marmaduke Backhouse obtained the Licence in Civil Engineeering at Trinity College, Dublin, in 1867.(1) By 1883 he had established himself in independent practice at 10 Harcourt Terrace, Dublin.(2) His pupils and assistants included CHARLES FRANCIS BOMFORD CHARLES FRANCIS BOMFORD , ROBERT PAUL GILL ROBERT PAUL GILL , PETER PONSONBY METGE PETER PONSONBY METGE , THOMAS FORSYTH  THOMAS FORSYTH and BERKELEY DEANE WISE BERKELEY DEANE WISE . He died in 1927 or 1928.

ICEI: elected member, 11 February 1880;(2) council member, 1894-95; hon. secretary, 1896-1905; hon. member, 1910.
