Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

County engineer for Co. Wexford, 1946-1961. Joseph Doris was born in Dungannon, Co. Tyrone, and educated at Dungannon Academy and Queen's University, Belfast, graduating with a B.Sc. in Engineering in 1922. His first post was as assistant engineer with Tyrone County Council. In 1925 he became Borough Surveyor for Armagh and, circa 1931, town surveyor of Dundalk. After fifteen years in Dundalk he was appointed County Surveyor for Co. Wexford in 1946, a post which he held for the rest of his life despite failing health in his last years. He died in Dublin on 4 April 1961, leaving a widow, Eileen, two sons, Patrick and Niall, and three daughters.
