Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Belfast and Derry. John Adam Davidson, son of Richard Baxter Davidson and his wife, Henrietta, was born in Bray, Co. Wicklow, in 1881.(1)   He became a pupil in the office of YOUNG & YOUNG & amp; MACKENZIE  MACKENZIE in 1900 and remained as an assistant until 1909. During this period he also attended classes at the Belfast Technical School.   In 1909 he was taken into partnership by MATTHEW ALEXANDER ROBINSON  MATTHEW ALEXANDER ROBINSON of Derry, the practice being named ROBINSON & ROBINSON & amp; DAVIDSON DAVIDSON . Davidson carried on the practice after Robinson's death in 1929 until at least 1950. He was still alive in 1951.(2)  

RIBA: registered student 1906;(3) passed qualifying exam, 1909; elected associate 28 February 1910, having been proposed by ROBERT MAGILL YOUNG ROBERT MAGILL YOUNG , WILLIAM JOHN GILLILAND  WILLIAM JOHN GILLILAND and NICHOLAS FITZSIMONS NICHOLAS FITZSIMONS ; fellow by 1932.(4)
RSUA: member by 1936.(5)
