Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect of Derry   According to the English census of 1871, Daniel Conroy, second son of James Conroy, a quartermaster sergeant in the Royal Engineers, and his wife, Letitia, was born in New Brompton, Gillingham, Kent, in 1866 or 1867.  Both his parents were Irish, and the family appears to have returned to Ireland before the birth of his younger brother Edmund in Derry in1878 or 1879    Daniel was active as an architect in Derry from circa 1895(1) until his death in 1912. His obituary in the Derry Journal describes him as 'a young man of brilliant parts' and an artist of genius. He died in the City and County Infirmary, Derry, and was buried in Ardmore burying ground.
